Every year, the cannabis industry innovates so many new products, it is difficult to keep up! Recently, there has been growing discussion over at least three emerging cannabinoids known as HHC, THC-O, and THC-P. If you are looking to further your education and understanding of the different cannabinoids available, you have come to the right place. In this article, our goal is to discuss all of the cannabinoids that are readily available to consumers, and get into detail as to what you can expect from taking each one of these cannabinoids and more.

The Hero is Hemp

Hemp is more than just CBD. Hemp has paved the way for many cannabis businesses especially in a world where marijuana is deemed illegal at the federal level. When testing hemp plants for cannabinoids, cannabis testing facilities have found over 100 active yet minor cannabinoids beyond just CBD that are present in the plant in very low traces. At first, it was easy to ignore them since the quantities in which they were found were practically negligible; however, as the industry improved its technology and understanding of hemp and marijuana, these minor cannabinoids have become more difficult to overlook. Now, we are able to completely isolate the cannabinoids naturally found in low amounts in hemp, into high enough isolated quantities for people to consume. The availability of minor cannabinoids on the market has allowed the cannabis industry to have the means to study their effects on the body and mind. What is now known is worth mentioning. Data gathered from individual reports gives us the insight necessary to put together a list of popularized cannabinoids that people are consuming today.

Our Ever Growing List of Minor Cannabinoids

We understand that the cannabis market is changing rapidly, which is why we want to provide you a list of cannabinoids we have become familiar with to keep you in the loop.

Delta-9 THC

You may already be familiar with the more known cannabinoids such as Delta-9 THC. In any case, we want to give you a quick recap. Delta 9 THC is commonly sold in marijuana products and is illegal or regulated in most states. Since the introduction of delta 9 products, federal regulations require all hemp products to contain less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by weight. Despite the low percentage of delta 9 allowed in hemp products, it is more than enough to get you high in the form of edibles. Many people who try cannabis for the first time only require 5mg of THC to feel medicated, which is why federally compliant hemp companies now carry hemp edibles with delta 9 levels as high as 10mg while still ensuring that the edible itself is less than 0.3% delta 9 by weight.

HHC

HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol) has quickly become the standard cannabinoid on the market due to its psychoactive effects while being legal in all 50 states. Originally, HHC is found in small amounts in hemp seeds and hemp pollen. When compared to the beloved Delta-9 THC, HHC is incredibly similar in chemical structure, and has been known to also provide a slightly less potent yet similar high as delta 9. Additionally, HHC is also able to provide similar medicinal effects like THC, including relieving nausea, improving moods, decreasing physical discomforts, and aiding appetites. If you are interested in trying HHC, feel free to check out all of our HHC products in our shop!

HHC-O

If HHC is not achieving the potency you are looking for, you may take interest in HHC-O. By combining acetic anhydride to HHC, we are able to rearrange its chemical configuration to make it about 1.5 times more potent than HHC alone. Although the difference may be marginal, it may be the closest thing to replicating the effects of Delta-9 THC.

THC-O

THC-O (THC-O acetate) is a cannabinoid that is newly popularized with an old history. First discovered in the mid 20th century along with delta 9 thc, THC-O has had a long reputation of being about three times stronger than delta 9. Like HHC-O, THC-O is formed by combining delta 9 THC with acetic anhydride. This conversion makes a drastic change in the effects behind THC, as THC-O has a more intense psychological effect and may cause extreme euphoria.

THC-P

THC-P (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is another form of THC incredible psychoactive properties. This newly discovered cannabinoid is only found in low amounts in hemp, so low, that it was only found possible to synthesize within the past two years. When consuming THC-P, users report highly intoxicating effects. THC-P is now known to be over 10 times stronger than delta 9 THC, making it the most potent cannabinoid for psychoactive consumption.

THCV

Although THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) is a derivative of THC, it is hardly psychoactive. Since its discovery in 1973. THCV is more commonly utilized as an analgesic and a digestive aid. That being said, users still report feeling high like traditional THC, but not as intensely.

Delta 8 and Delta 10 THC

Aside from delta 9, both delta 8 and delta 10 are arguably more popular than the other minor cannabinoids. That is because they have not only been around longer, but also produce similar medical effects as delta 9. In regards to their psychoactive effects, both delta 8 and delta 10 THC are about 70% of the strength when compared to the high from delta 9. The difference between the two cannabinoids are similar to the differences between indica and sativa cannabis strains. Delta 8, like indica strains, creates a body numbing effect, which may help with chronic pains. As for delta 10 and sativa strains, the psychoactive properties are more uplifting, providing a sense of energy and creativity.

CBDA and CBGA

If you didn’t know, THCA is a form of THC before it is decarboxylated. That same logic applies to both CBDA and CBGA. Simply put, CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) and CBGA (cannabigerolic acid) are the pre-decarboxylated forms of CBD and CBG respectively. Now that we know what these cannabinoids turn into, we can then deduce that these two cannabinoid acids are non-psychoactive. Like THCA, CBDA and CBGA are all found naturally in hemp, and are the compounds produced by hemp plants before they are treated with heat. Once these acids come into contact with enough heat, whether it be a joint or a chemical conversion, these compounds are converted into their more known forms, which are responsible for getting you high. If you have ever tried to eat a cannabis plant in its rawest form, you will notice that overtime you may never feel medicated. That is because the cannabis acids are still in a state to where they cannot be broken down by our bodies unless they are converted to their decarboxylated states.
